A school lockdown is a pre-planned emergency measure that can be used when there is a serious threat, either inside the school building or nearby, to the safety of pupils, staff and visitors.
During a lockdown, access to and from the school may be restricted or locked (doors, gates, etc).
Pupils and staff are moved to or remain in a safe location (such as a classroom or other designated area) away from the potential threat.
